Morocco Grand Circuit from Casablanca

Pick-up at your hotel or Casablanca airport depending on your flight. We begin the journey heading to the Hassan II Mosque for a panoramic tour of Casablanca and its diverse neighborhoods. Overnight at a charming hotel in Casablanca.

Around 8:00 we head to the Kingdom's capital. A city tour of Rabat: the Royal Palace, the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, and the Kasbah of the Oudayas (UNESCO), a haven of peace and inspiration for artists, with its famous Café Maure. We then continue to Chefchaouen.

A guided tour of Chefchaouen, a jewel of the Rif, known for its whitewashed houses with turquoise doors, wrought-iron windows and blue streets. We enjoy the view of the Tarik-BenZiad Mosque from a café terrace, walk through the Andalusian-style kasbah and discover its crafts (basketry and pottery) and its lively souk, with a local guide. Overnight at a charming riad in the medina.

• Chefchaouen

South with a visit to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, one of the best-preserved sites, and to the imperial city of Meknes. On to Fes, where we spend the night.

A full day discovering Fes with a local guide. Fes el-Bali (UNESCO), founded in the 9th century, is home to the world's oldest university and reached its peak under the Merinids in the 13th-14th centuries. We explore its roughly 9,000 alleyways and the artisan workshops, blacksmithing, leatherwork, ceramics, silk, tapestries and sculpture, as active today as a hundred years ago. Overnight at a riad.

Out via Ifrane, the "Moroccan Switzerland," and the cedar forest, where we stop to watch the monkeys climb the trees. Through the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley, one of the south's largest palm groves and oases, to Erfoud, famous for its fossil museums and workshops. In Merzouga, free time with the locals and an optional ATV to enjoy the sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Overnight at a riad by the dunes.

After breakfast, a discovery of the desert and the nomad families: tea and the oasis where films such as "Sahara" (starring Penelope Cruz) were shot. A visit to the Rissani souk, one of the south's oldest, and lunch in Khamlia. A sunset camel ride and sandboarding at the edge of Erg Chebbi. A special night at a Berber camp, in a private tent, with dinner, music and a starry sky.

Optional sunrise over Erg Chebbi and, after breakfast, back to Merzouga by camel or 4WD. Through Berber villages (Mellab, Tinjdad) to the Todra Valley, one of the southeast's most beautiful oases, and its gorges of about 300 m, famous for climbing and hiking. Arrival at the Dades Gorges, with an overnight at a charming riad.

Through the Valley of Roses (famous for its May Rose Festival) and the Skoura kasbahs, with the small, intact Amredil Kasbah that once featured on the 50-dirham banknote. Through Ouarzazate and the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (UNESCO). A stop at Telouet, once the seat of Pasha El Glaoui, from where the Tizi n'Tichka, one of the country's highest paved passes, was controlled. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon.

Around 8:30-9:00 the guide collects you for the Marrakech tour. Djemaa el-Fna square, with its juice stalls, dried fruit, henna, snake charmers and storytellers. The Majorelle Garden, owned by Yves Saint Laurent, with its famous blue, and the Secret Garden. The Koutoubia, the Bahia, the Ben Youssef Medersa and the Saadian Tombs, plus the souks, the tanneries and the Mellah quarter.

• Marrakech

A trip to Essaouira (Mogador), an old Portuguese city on a fine-sand peninsula, protected by its 18th-century walls and mostly pedestrian. From the Skala, views of the colourful fishing port, the fortresses and the cannons, and its woodwork crafts with lemon wood, ebony and mother-of-pearl. An optional seafood lunch at the port. In the evening, back to Marrakech and overnight at a riad in the medina.

A free day in the Red City to keep exploring: a traditional hammam with an argan-oil treatment, sunset at Jemaa el-Fna and dinner at a typical medina restaurant. Overnight at a riad/hotel in Marrakech.
