Ten days from Tangier to Marrakech: the blue north, the imperial cities, two nights in the Merzouga desert, the kasbah route and guided Marrakech.

Meet at Tangier port/airport and travel through the Rif Mountains with stops at scenic viewpoints. Brief visit to Tetouan, with white buildings blending Spanish and Moorish styles. Arrive in Chefchaouen by early afternoon: check in and explore the blue-washed streets, Plaza Uta el-Hammam and rooftop cafés with mountain views. (112 km)
After breakfast, head south. Tour the Roman ruins at Volubilis (mosaics, stone columns, basilica, capitoline temple and triumphal arch). Stop in Meknes to see Bab el-Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and explore the medina. Arrive in Fes for an overnight in a riad within the medina. (277 km)
A full day in this cultural and spiritual center: winding alleys, the Royal Palace gates, the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), Al Quaraouiyine University (859 AD, the world's oldest operating university), the tanneries from a rooftop terrace, the Attarine Museum in a restored madrasa and the Moulay Idriss Mausoleum courtyard.
Across the Middle Atlas: Ifrane ("Little Switzerland"), the Azrou Cedar Forest with Barbary apes, lunch in Midelt, the Ziz Valley with date palm groves and Erfoud (fossils and dates). Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon and rest near the dunes. (469 km)
Gnawa music in Khamlia village, a visit to a Berber nomad family with tea, and a Madfouna (Berber pizza) lunch. In the late afternoon, a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes (Morocco's tallest) to the camp by sunset: private tent, dinner and live drumming around the fire under the stars. (45 km)
Sunrise over the dunes and breakfast. Rissani market, then on to the Todgha Gorges (limestone cliffs nearly 300 m high). A walk along the riverbed and a scenic drive through the Dades Valley, past kasbahs and rock formations like the famous "Monkey Toes." Homemade dinner and overnight in the valley. (269 km)
Along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to Kalaa M'gouna, famous for its rose fields and Damask-rose products. The Skoura oasis and Kasbah Amridil. Arrive in Ouarzazate (a major film location): Taourirt Kasbah and studios where Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. Dinner and overnight. (132 km)
Visit Ait Benhaddou (UNESCO), a fortified mud-brick village. Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260 m), one of Morocco's highest, with photo stops at viewpoints. Arrive in Marrakech by afternoon and settle into a riad in the heart of the medina. (196 km)
Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs (tilework and domed ceilings), Bahia Palace (courtyards and painted ceilings), Djemaa el Fna Square with its performers, the traditional souks and the Majorelle Garden (of Jacques Majorelle and Yves Saint Laurent). Overnight in a riad.
A final breakfast at the riad, last-minute souvenir shopping and transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport for departure.
