From Fes to Marrakech crossing the country north to south: Middle Atlas, two nights in the Merzouga area with a 4WD day in Erg Chebbi, Todra Gorges, the Dades valley and Ait Ben Haddou.

DAY1

Day 1 · Fes · Azrou · Midelt · Ziz Valley · Merzouga

We leave Fes via Azrou and the Middle Atlas, through cedar forests where Barbary apes may be seen, alternating green valleys and rocky terrain. A stop in Midelt, known for its orchards and mountain views. Through the Tizi Ntalghamt Pass we reach the Ziz Valley and its palm groves (a lunch stop). A viewpoint near the dunes offers the sunset before continuing to Merzouga for the night.

DAY2

Day 2 · Merzouga · Khamlia · Mefis mines · Erg Chebbi

A visit to the neighbouring Gnawa village for its music and customs, and to the Mefis mines (inactive lead mines). Tea with Bedouin families to learn about nomadic life and, depending on the season, an optional visit to Merzouga Lake (with flamingos). In the afternoon, a camel ride toward the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

DAY3

Day 3 · Erg Chebbi · Todra Gorge · Dades Valley

An early departure for sunrise and breakfast at the camp. On to the Todra Gorge through villages, farmlands and tall cliffs; a walk by the river or a rest at the water's edge. In the afternoon, on to the Dades Valley, with its mountain views and distinctive rock formations. Dinner and overnight at a valley hotel.

DAY4

Day 4 · Dades Valley · Ait Ben Haddou · Telouet · Marrakech

A visit to Ait Benhaddou (UNESCO), an earthen ksar on ancient caravan routes, with its narrow alleys and towers. A stop at Telouet Kasbah, a former palace on the trade routes. We cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, with Berber villages and changing landscapes, arriving in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
